We talk to Chamath Ekanayake about what a typical day looks like for him at FSM.
Q: What’s your official job title, and what does it mean?
A: I’m the FSM Business Support Administrator. I look after the administration of the organisation – everything from dealing with suppliers to funders, to business planning and keeping an eye on budgets.
Q: What time do you usually get into the office, and what’s the first thing you do?
A: I usually get in here between 8.30 and 9am – and the first thing I do is have a coffee.
Sometimes I come in and leave later because I find I get the most work done after 5pm – that’s when it’s quieter in the office.
Q: What’s the most important part of your day?
A: Almost every evening during summer I take a walk with my wife and two children to a local park. We talk about how everyone spent their day. It’s a chance for the children to talk about any problems they have and what they want to do in the future.
Q: What’s your favourite part of your day?
A: Well, I feel most energetic between 10am and 12 noon. That is when my mind is most awake.
Q: What’s the one thing about work you would change?
A: One of the things I'm working on is ways to make our organisation more financially independent - by developing social enterprise.
