A classic British dish designed to use up stale bread. Makes a delicious dessert with warm custard, or a lunch box snack.
Ingredients
6 thick slices of stale bread
4 eggs
2 cups milk
½ cup raisins (optional)
3/4 cup white sugar
Method
Cut bread into quarters and arrange to cover the base of a greased ovenproof dish. Sprinkle the raisins over the top.
Beat eggs, sugar and milk together until combined and pour over the bread. Push down with a fork to make sure the bread is soaking up the egg mixture.
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180C for 45 minutes or until set.
Tip: Serve with custard or condensed milk for dessert!
