A middle eastern delicacy that is common in the supermarket, hummus is easy to make yourself at home and is a nutritional snack for you and the kids.
Ingredients
1 x can chickpeas
1 x clove of garlic, very finely chopped
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp lemon juice
a pinch of salt
Method
Place the contents of the can of chickpeas including the water into a bowl and microwave on medium heat for 30 seconds. This will soften the chickpeas. Drain them and place them in a bowl. Using a fork, mash them into a paste. Alternatively, you can use a masticator or a blender if you have one.
Add the finely chopped garlic, oil, lemon juice and salt to taste. Mix together. Add a little water if you prefer a runnier consistency.
Cut up some carrots and cucumber into long strips (called crudites), or some toast into strips for dipping into the hummus - a tasty afternoon snack!
